ALS 3203 Lesson 2 - Review A Few Basic Windows Skills
Lesson 2 - Objectives: (Note: If you are taking
this course using a MacIntosh you may NOT be able to complete this lesson
unless you are familiar with the Linux command line. Please E-mail me if this
is the case!).
This lesson also may be review for many of you. But it may be new to an equal
number. Depending on your system configuration you may have more or fewer drives.
The concepts here are important for future computer use.
- Practice file management (making
directories)
- View directory structure of hard disk, floppy disk
- Recognizing Program files in a file
listing
- Execute programs from command line
- Compare GUI and command line procedures, convince you that a command
line interface is still useful
Lesson 2 - Tasks:NOTE - the only thing to complete and submit
is the lesson certification form after viewing the parts of this lesson.
- Consider a few command-line questions (try and
figure out how to do these). You
have already accomplished at least one command line procedure with the
directory exercise in Lesson 1.
- Exercise - making directories
- Complete and submit Lesson Completion Certification
Lesson 2 - View and/or print a Hard copy - PDF files. These
may appear to be poorly drawn on the screen but when printed are as good as the
original handouts. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print
these. If these are old news to you, save your printer toner and just look
at them.
- Comparison between appearances of DOS (command-line) and Windows GUI
(Graphical User Interface).
- DOS Directory listing of C:\ (root directory) on a computer, with comments about
filenames and directory names.
- Windows Explorer display of same computer's
drives and the contents of C:\
